Social Private Equity - Mobilising Capital for Transformative Social Change

Relatively small amounts of private equity capital rapidly and significantly transformed swathes of South Africa’s economy in the past decade, demonstrating the efficacy of PE as a high impact investment methodology. Social Private Equity (SPE) targets opportunities with high social value add potential and utilises the generic PE methodology to support enterprises primarily serving BoP populations by:

providing low yield mezzanine capital and targeted non-financial assistance to investees
supporting NPO and other business models that provide social goods, services & infrastructure
lowering entry costs for social entrepreneurs to create sustainable business models
